Invisalign and The Damon System

If you’re tired of having crooked teeth and would like to get them straightened and made more even and beautiful, there are two ways to do it.

Our dentists at the Stow Dental Group in Canton, Ohio offer both Invisalign and The Damon System for adults. You might be able to make the choice yourself between these two methods. In some cases, only one would be a viable option, but for some people, both would work.

Invisalign

Instead of wearing braces for a year or two to re-distribute your teeth and make them straight and even, this approach uses a series of clear aligners, custom made.

Each aligner is a firm and precisely designed shell that fits over the top or bottom teeth. In the series, each one picks up the work where the previous one left off. They can be taken out at any time, for cleaning, or for special occasions, but typically they’re worn 24 hours a day.

Each set of aligners applies pressure to your teeth in a pre-determined way, so that the irregularities that are unique to you are systematically and gently corrected. You’ll feel the aligners in your mouth, but they’ll be barely noticeable to other people, and won’t be painful.

There’s no metal, and no screws, brackets or wires. If you were to lose an aligner, it could be replaced easily, as your tooth impressions are kept at our office.

The procedure

• Your dentist would examine your teeth and use computerized technology to determine:
  • How many aligners you’d need (typically between 10 and 25 or so), and
  • Exactly what amount and location of pressure each one should apply to your teeth.
• Each two weeks, you’d take out the current set of aligners and start wearing the next set.
• Every 6 weeks or so, you’d have a visit with us to check on your progress and how you’re feeling about it all.
• After about 8 months to a year or so, your teeth would be established in new positions, making your smile pleasingly even.

The Damon System

Passive self-ligating braces that eliminate the need for elastic or metal "ties". High technology wires that move teeth faster and require fewer adjustments. A new clinically proven treatment approach that aligns your teeth and enhances your facial aesthetics - usually without extractions or rapid palatal expanders.
